The European Foot and Ankle Society, known as EFAS, came to BBI in 2022 looking for support and hosting for its DNN website. EFAS is a membership organisation for foot and ankle surgeons, providing access to member-only content, training opportunities, conference materials and professional resources.
The website played an important role in supporting the organisation. Members could access content not available to the public, arrange fellowships and training placements, and view resources from EFAS conferences, including seminar videos added to the website after each event.
EFAS had an existing DNN website managed by another agency, but wanted to move to a new support and hosting provider. When BBI was asked to redeploy the website on new hosting, we discovered that several important DNN module licences were not held by EFAS. They were held by the previous agency.
Replacing those licences would have been expensive, particularly as some of the modules were quite old. Rather than simply passing that cost on to the client, BBI reviewed the functionality the website actually needed and developed replacement functionality in-house.
By rebuilding key functionality ourselves, BBI helped EFAS avoid the significant cost of purchasing new licences for legacy modules. This gave the organisation the functionality it needed while creating a more practical and cost-effective technical foundation.
BBI redeployed the EFAS website on new hosting and provided ongoing technical support.
Legacy module dependency was reduced by developing required functionality in-house.
Role-based access was improved to support member-only content and public information.
BBI continues to provide hosting, support and analytics reporting for the EFAS website.
Since EFAS moved to BBI, we have continued to enhance the website. One important project was the development of a research platform - a collection of resources available to members across Europe.
The website already contained a mixture of public and member-only content, but the previous permissions structure had become difficult to manage. Some content was duplicated, and users could move from a logged-in member area to public content without a clear route back. This created a confusing experience for members and an unnecessary admin burden for the EFAS team.
BBI used DNN’s role-based permissions and permission-based content features to improve the structure. This made the user experience clearer, reduced duplication and made the administration of content much more straightforward.
BBI helped EFAS move its DNN website onto new hosting, replace legacy module functionality, improve the member experience and reduce the admin workload involved in managing public and member-only content.
The relationship has continued through ongoing hosting, support, development and analytics reporting. EFAS now has a trusted technical supplier that understands the website, the membership structure and the importance of keeping the platform stable, accessible and easy to manage.
The EFAS story shows how BBI supports complex membership websites with practical technical thinking.
BBI supports DNN websites that rely on membership areas, permissions, custom functionality and long-term stability.
When legacy systems create expensive problems, BBI looks for practical development solutions rather than defaulting to costly replacements.
Better role-based permissions and content structures can make websites easier for both users and administrators.
BBI helps organisations maintain, improve and extend DNN websites, from hosting and support through to custom functionality and member-only content.
